New NDIS PACE System: Navigating Support Type and Category Changes

In the previous blog, we delved into the new NDIS PACE initiative designed to enhance connections between participants and the NDIS. For more details, you can check out our blog.

In this article, we take a deep dive into the new PACE categories changes:

Changes to NDIS Support Types and Support Categories –

More plan flexibility for participants:

With budgets specified at this level as a total dollar figure, rather than detailed line-by-line costs, participants will have more flexibility in how they use their total budget.

NDIS plans developed in a new computer system won’t have service bookings. This shift reduces administrative burdens for providers and gives participants more choice and control, as funding is not pre-allocated to future supports.

Participants will still have access to stated and flexible supports, but these will now be categorized at the support category level.

Support Items-

NDIS plan will continue to have over 850+ support items and these will not change.

Support Types-

PACE is moving from 3 to 4 support types. Support types now include:

  • Core
  • Capacity building
  • Capital
  • Recurring (New)

Support Categories-

Your NDIS plan will move from 15 to 21 support categories.

The NDIS has split some of the existing categories to make the new categories easier to understand.

To simplify, we’ve presented a table below, showing the existing supports, name changes and new support additions.

Six new support categories (highlighted in green below) will be added, and some existing support category names will undergo changes (highlighted in blue below).
